Welcome
A Boutique Villa Built in 1939
Welcome to Vila Triglav on Pokljuka — a unique boutique villa with a rich and multifaceted history, set in the peaceful and unspoiled natural surroundings of the Pokljuka Plateau. The villa represents a rare blend of architectural heritage, historical significance, and modern, respectful hospitality.
The Villa’s History
Vila Triglav was built in 1939 in the renowned Plečnik architectural style and was originally owned by the Vrhunec family from Ljubljana. From the very beginning, it was considered an exceptional retreat — a place for peace, reflection, and quiet escape in nature. After World War II, the family faced severe pressure from the authorities of the time, culminating on 22 May 1946, when they were forced to sign a sales contract at an imposed price, marking the end of the villa’s first chapter.
A Role in History
In the decades that followed, the villa served various purposes and became closely connected to the political and protocol history of the former state. It was known as Tito’s Villa, later as Kardelj’s Villa, and then functioned as a protocol residence of the Republic of Slovenia. In later years, it became an open-type hospitality venue. In 1999, following the denationalization process, the villa was returned to its original owners, who — due to its complex and difficult history — chose not to continue ownership.
A New Chapter
A new, modern chapter began in 2007, when Vila Triglav was taken over by the Valjavec family. Their vision was built on respect for the past, preservation of original details, and the creation of a boutique retreat with a clear identity. The villa was carefully and gradually restored, with many original architectural elements from 1939 preserved with great attention — giving the villa its distinctive character, warmth, and authenticity.
Your Host
Tadej Valjavec is a former professional cyclist and the first Slovenian to reach the Top 10 overall in both the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia. After his sporting career, he and his family took over the management of the villa, adding a personal touch rooted in dedication, precision, and genuine care for each guest.
Rooms & Accommodation
The rooms are named after family members — Klara, Erazem, Mateja, and Tadej — creating a more personal connection to the story of the house. A special highlight is the Chalet, a restored wooden stable that offers complete privacy, tranquility, and direct connection with nature.
Our Philosophy
Passion. Tradition. True Story. Vila Triglav is not just accommodation — it is a place of stories, silence, and respectful living, where history blends naturally with a calm, contemporary way of life.
